Mickey Guyton tells Megyn Kelly of her Grammy nominations:
In February, we all celebrated the birth of our newest baby, but I celebrated the Grammy Awards in New York City, where every single artist had a moment at the top of the song. I know because I was nominated for my single ‘I Know Somebody’ from my debut album.
The kind of woman I am will never take that for granted. I am so humbled by being nominated and proud to be among the nominees, especially in such a powerful genre. This will never be a moment I forget or want to overthink, because I know it’s just another stepping stone on my path to achieving my dreams.
One of the things I like to do as a human being is create platforms for women. Women have been fighting this battle for a long time, and I feel the more voices we hear that speak up and say that they are real women, that they walk with us, that they know we don’t have the same drive as the men who come into their careers.
I want to give that platform to the next generation of women, the women who are so excited to play in all these arenas. I have three wonderful sisters in the entertainment industry, and it’s an honor for me to see all these young women bring the positive messages and the beautiful messages of what to look for in the new women. There’s so much hope and there’s so much power in all of us.
On performing with Missy Elliott at The Tony Awards:
All I can say is … I am honored and I am terrified! I’m just going to see how everything goes. She is the business and that’s what she does. She is working, and she gives everything she can. I’m a fan of hers from having been in college with her from our collective experiences, so I’m proud to just be on that stage.
