Provincewide healthcare impacts are considered less likely during the present COVID wave – which has hit the North East region, Central to South, and Lakes Region. In October 2018, Ontario Health carried out a comprehensive review of provincial effects and found health-care providers have reported being understaffed, restructuring, and limiting access. However, this wave of water front flooding has occurred after long periods of unprecedented rainfall. In prior years, Health has been impacted throughout the entire network of hospitals, but has not occurred recently.
Premier Doug Ford has indicated his intention to re-open health care facilities which have been closed due to flooding but he has not revealed what the next steps will be. An online survey has been created in conjunction with the government to inform future decisions on managing, re-opening, or cancelling health care projects and facilities.
