China and Russia became our largest source of tourism to the U.S. A total of 23.1 million people from China stayed here last year, a 12.9 percent rise over 2016. The number of Russians here increased 7.2 percent to 13.8 million.
Canadians and Mexicans were the next top three tourism markets with 6.9 million and 6.5 million people staying here, respectively. More than 9 million Germans visited America.

Overseasers stayed at 17.4 million hotels in America during the year ending Sept. 30, a 3.2 percent increase from the previous year.
Spending by foreign travelers on hotels rose 5.8 percent to $118.8 billion.
A total of 86.7 million Americans visited abroad in the year ending September 30, a 2.7 percent increase over the previous year.
Foreign visitors spent $244.3 billion in the U.S. during the year ending Sept. 30, an increase of 4.2 percent from the previous year.
A total of 2.6 million Americans from abroad came to the U.S. to visit family or friends. The number of parents coming to visit their children rose to a record 9.6 million.
Hotel revenues rose 4.2 percent to $336.9 billion in the U.S.
